New Orleans, Louisiana
The long shutter technique allows me to get a painterly-look to the photographs. How and how much I shake the camera, produces different effects. I've always loved the impressionistic paintings of the late 1800's and early 1900's. I think details can hinder the mood of scene, sometimes. This impressionistic technique allows me to show the essence of what I saw, not necessarily a representation of what was there.
I really like the way how this street performer is framed with dead space between him and the group of people that has walked by. For us artists, this is a scenario that we all know and have felt before, to perform even when nobody is watching or listening. We just do what we do. But this guitarist is still looking at the group, with perhaps a tinge of sorrow. We're all human, I guess.
