One of my favorite things to photograph is the 'effects of light'. This photo is a good example of seeing the light as a subject. My interest in this scene was how the sunlight was grazing on the steps rather than the people on it. Sure, the people was necessary to complete the photograph but the "star" was the setting sun. The ray of the sun draws a diagonal line that connects all the people in the frame.
When I photograph a street scene, it is a marriage of many things that come together at a moment's time. I have an idea what and where it all should be in my framing, but most times, I'm surprised by how things come together. Being able to react quickly is a key component in street photography.
